Keauna Brantley
Sculpture and Decorative Arts and Italian and Spanish Paintings
For the second year of my internship, I decided to continue developing my skills at curation, so I retained my placement with the National Gallery’s departments of Sculpture and Decorative Arts as well as Italian and Spanish Paintings. In both departments, I worked to develop in-depth research for the Howard-Kress collection. The purpose of this placement was also to develop innovative approaches for analyzing and displaying the Howard-Kress collection for new audiences. As I developed my approach to the analysis and display of these works, I was able to study the history of the Howard University Gallery of Art alongside that of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. The goal of this project is ultimately to develop digital and physical representations of an exhibition featuring the works belonging to the Howard-Kress collection. Through this process, I gained experience in conducting interdisciplinary research, project management, and providing professional presentations of work products.
