In the last year my work on the Oplontis Project has continued, building on another successful field season. We were able to detect three distinct phases of development for a wine emporium spanning some 230 years before the eruption of Vesuvius. I have signed a book contract with Routledge to produce a volume detailing the role of the fortifications of Pompeii in the history of the city. I will pay particular attention to their development as a dynamic monument shaping the urban and social layout of the city, as opposed to the traditional perception of a static military structure.
