Stacey Sell received her PhD in art history from the University of Virginia in 1993 with a dissertation on Rembrandt's drawings. She worked in the department of prints at the Philadelphia Museum of Art for five years before arriving at the Gallery in 1998. At the National Gallery of Art, she has been a curator of several exhibitions, including Drawing in Silver and Gold: Leonardo to Jasper Johns (2015), The Touch of Color: Pastels at the National Gallery of Art (2019) and The Artist's Vision: Romantic Traditions in Britain (2006). Her publications include articles on topics ranging from the Victorian silverpoint revival to the miniatures of Joris Hoefnagel.
