Amy Johnston has been associate curator of collections in the department of Old Master drawings at the National Gallery of Art since 2019.

Johnston first joined the National Gallery in 2003 as a curatorial assistant in the department of modern prints and drawings, later becoming assistant curator of modern prints and drawings. She has curated three exhibitions for the museum: American Landscapes in Watercolor from the Corcoran Collection (2025–2026), Stanley William Hayter: From Surrealism to Abstraction (2009), and Three Centuries of American Prints from the National Gallery of Art (2016). Prior to her time at the National Gallery, she held positions at the University of Virginia, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.

Johnston holds a BA in German and art history from the University of Wisconsin and an MA in art history from the University of Virginia.
