January 5 – April 30, 2004
East Building, Study Center Library
This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.
This exhibit commemorated the publication of Italian Paintings of the Fifteenth Century by David Alan Brown and Miklòs Boskovits, et. al., at the time the most recent addition to the Gallery’s series of systematic catalogs. Photographic collections like the Gallery’s photographic archives were instrumental in the research for this book. The images displayed in the exhibition charted the histories of a selection of the Gallery’s Italian Renaissance paintings through their restorations and reattributions. The accompanying remarks were paraphrased from the catalog.
