The Medal and the Book

July 3, 2004 – April 3, 2005
West Building, Ground Floor, G21

This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.

Medals and coins were popular collectors’ items as far back as antiquity. Focusing on France, Italy, and England from the 16th to the 18th century, this exhibition looked at the relationship between this collecting activity and the genre of printed books that grew up around it.

Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Neal Turtell, executive librarian, and Eleonora Luciano, associate curator of sculpture, were cocurators.

Passes: Admission is always free and passes are not required
