This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.

Focusing on 24 American artists from the 19th and 20th centuries, this exhibition included 25 monographs, exhibition catalogs, and surveys along with reproductions of works of art and documentary photographs that showed the ways artists were presented to the public through publications.

Organization:  The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Mary Wasserman, associate slide librarian, and Rita Cacas, cataloger of twentieth-century art (Photographic Archives), were cocurators.
