East Building, Study Center Library
This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.
With 20 examples dating from the 16th century to the late 20th century, this exhibition highlighted some of the ways that bookbinders and designers sought to create unique and personal expressions, especially in books about art. Of particular interest were examples of exhibition catalogs from the 1960s and 1970s, when experimentation was encouraged and many of these books became collectible items in their own right.
Organization: The exhibition was organized by the National Gallery of Art. Dorothy Faul, gifts and exchange librarian, and Caroline Backlund, head of reader services, were cocurators.
Passes: Admission is always free and passes are not required
