Ground Floor, Galleries G-9, G-10
This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.
Overview: Official British war paintings, recording military and civilian activities in wartime Britain, were selected by Sir Kenneth Clark, director of the National Gallery, London. They were chosen from the more than 2,000 works produced under the "Recording Britain" plan, developed by the British government to foster art during the war. The exhibition toured the United States under the auspices of the Artists Advisory Committee, set up by the British Ministry of Information.
