Ground Floor, Central Gallery
This exhibition is no longer on view at the National Gallery.
Overview: This exhibition consisted of 36 compositions designed for war bond poster use, by 29 well-known American artists. It was sponsored by the Treasury Department's National Committee of Honorary Patrons to coincide with the Treasury's third war loan campaign. Preliminary drawings and sketches, paintings, and examples of poster reproductions were shown, designed to stimulate the purchase of war bonds. Abbott Laboratories paid the artists for their work, then donated the paintings to the Treasury Department. The exhibition was circulated to other art museums throughout the country beginning in Baltimore.
