Primrose, Albert Edward Harry Mayer Archibald 6th Earl Rosebery
Biography
Albert was born in 1882, the son of Archibald Philip Primrose, 5th Earl Rosebery [1847-1929], and Hannah, daughter and heiress of the late Baron Meyer de Rothschild [d. 1890]. He was a Knight of the Order of the Thistle, a Companion of the Distinquished Service Order, Military Cross, and a Privy Counsellor. He was a doyen of British Turf as a racehorse owner, and breeder, as well as a Steward of the Jockey Club from 1929-1932, and 1945-1948. He served from 1906-1910 as a member of Parliament for Midlothian (L). From 1941-1945 he was the Regional Commissioner for Scotland, he was the Secretary of State for Scotland in 1945, and was the Chairman of the National Liberal Party from 1945-1947. In 1909, Albert married 1st, Lady Dorothy Alice Margaret Augusta Grosvenor [d. 1966], sister of 3rd Duke of Westminster; the marriage was dissolved in 1919. His second marriage was in 1924 to Hon. Dame Eva Isabel Marian Strutt, daughter of the 2nd Baron Aberdare, and formerly the wife of the 3rd Baron Belper. Eva's titles included, Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire, Doctor of Laws, and Justice of the Peace. Albert died in 1974, and was succeeded by his younger son, Neil Archibald, 7th Earl Rosebery.
