The second son of Nathan Mayer de Rothschild (1777-1836) of Frankfort and later London, Sir Anthony Rothschild was, like his father, a Baron of the Austrian Empire. He married Louisa Montefiore [1821-1910] in 1840. They had two daughters, Constance (married Cyril Flower, Lord Battersea) and Anna (married Hon. Elliot Yorke). On 12 January 1847, Sir Anthony was created a Baronet, "with limitation, failing his own male issue, to the sons of his elder brother, Lionel...." Thus he was succeeded in the baronetcy by his nephew, Nathan Mayer, 1st Baron Rothschild.
