Wilhelm Sattler purchased Castle Mainberg in 1822 from the Bavarian government. His son Jens enlarged Mainberg, which housed the Sattler's collection of art objects. Among the collection was a sixteenth-century wooden bust by Tilman Riemenschneider, supposedly of Saint Burchard (the first bishop of Würzburg), which they may have acquired from a church for which it was made. The bust is now in the NGA. After Jens' death in 1901 an auction of Schloss Mainberg was held in Berlin.
