Jane Suddarth Toole was the wife of the American "naive" painter John Toole [1815-1860]. They were married in late 1836 (their marriage license was dated November 5, 1836). She inherited the paintings still in her husband's possession at the time of his death. A skating scene painted c. 1835 (NGA 1958.9.6) passed by inheritance through the descendants of her daughter, Alice Toole Barnes, until it was finally sold in 1955.
