Emily Hunter (Mrs. Geroge Cross) was the daughter of William Hunter, Sr. and the granddaughter of Delilah Gustin Hunter. She inherited from her father a portrait of his mother's sister-in-law, Sarah Ogden Gustin (now in the NGA). The picture is believed to have been painted by American naive artist Joshua Johnson in c. 1798-1800, around the time of Sarah's marriage to Robert Gustin of Bath, Berkeley Springs, Virginia [now West Virginia].
