American, c. early 19th century

Biography

William Hunter, Sr. was the son of Delilah Gustin Hunter, sister-in-law of Sarah Ogden Gustin. He probably inherited through his mother a portrait (now in the NGA) of Sarah Gustin believed to have been painted by the American naive artist Joshua Johnson, around the time of Sarah's marriage to Robert Gustin (c. 1798-1800).
