Cornell, Russell

Biography

Russell was the son of Theodore Cornell, and grandson of James C. Cornell of Northampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. His grandfather raised prize-winning livestock and was part-owner of the bank at Newtown, Pennsylvania. Russell inherited an 1848 painting (now in the NGA) of James Cornell's farm by the American naive artist and Quaker, Edward Hicks.
