Biography

Mrs. Gray was the mother of Gordon Gray, of Washington, D.C. He inherited a portrait (then thought to be by Sir Peter Lely but now attributed to Gerard Soest) that Mrs. Gray purchased around 1929 in London. Her son and his wife gave the painting to the NGA in 1977.
