Kirkman Hodgson served as a Justice of the Peace and Deputy Lieutenant locally. He was a Member of Parliament for Bridgport from 1857-58, and for Bristol from 1870-78. On 20 April, 1843, he had married Frances [d. 1851], daughter of J.L. Butler of Southgate; they had two children, Robert Kirkman and Caroline Anna.
