John North Willys, President of Willys-Overland Motors in Toledo (that eventually became the Jeep brand), amassed a considerable art collection. Part of this was later used to furnished his apartment at 820 Fifth Avenue, New York. He bought his British pictures from Agnew's and from Reinhardt & Son between 1910 and 1921.
Willys was married in 1897 to Isabel van Wie, from whom he was divorced about a year before his death. They had one child, Virginia, later Mrs. Jose Delanda. Shortly after his divorce he married the former Mrs. Florence E. Dolan. A significant amount of the art collection remained with the first Mrs. Willys and was sold following her death at an estate sale at Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, on 25 October 1945.
