Biography

The son of Sir George William Stafford Jerningham, 7th Bt., 8th Baron of Stafford, and his first wife, Frances Henrietta Sulyarde, Sir Henry succeeded his father as Baron in 1851. He had served as a Member of Parliament for Pontefract from 1830-34. On 12 February 1829, he married Julia Barbara Howard, niece of the 12th Duke of Norfolk. After her death in 1856, he married secondly on 13 September 1859 to Emma Eliza Gerard [d. 1919]. Having no children, Sir Henry's nephew, Augustus Frederick Fitzherbert Stafford-Jerningham, succeeded him as 10th Baron of Stafford.
