The firm of Artaria was established in Vienna in 1770 by Karl Artaria. The firm continued into the nineteenth century under the leadership of Dominico Artaria and later his son, August Artaria (1807-1893). It became on of the largest publishing houses in the world before it was forced to close its doors in 1932 for financial reasons.
