Brigadier General Lindemann was born in England, a brother to Viscount Cherwell, the science advisor to Sir Winston Churchill. He studied on the continent, specializing in physics. He served in France in World War I, and was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. When he retired from the military, Gen. Lindemann entered the foreign service; he was counselor at the British Embassy in Washington from 1940-1947. General Lindemann died in 1970 at age 85.
