Edward Fowles was the director of the Paris branch of Duveen Brothers from 1917-38. He purchased the firm in 1939, and sold it to the Norton Simon Foundation in 1964. His widow, Jean Fowles, donated his business records to the Metropolitan Museum of Art; these were later transferred to the Getty Research Institute. The Archives of American Art has a 1959 oral history interview with Fowles.
