Lewis Morris [b. 1867] was the son of Charles Manigault Morris [1820-1895] and Clementina Hanson Morris. He was the grandson of Colonel Lewis Morris [1785-1863] and Elizabeth Manigault, and a descendant of Mary Walton [1727-1794] and Lewis Morris [1726-1798], a Brigadier-General in the Continental Army and signer of the Declaration of Independence. John Wollaston's portrait of Mary Walton Morris and of another member of the Morris family (long presumed to be her husband, Lewis) descended through the Morris family and are now in the collection of the National Gallery of Art.
