The portrait painter Ethan Allen Greenwood attended Columbia College where he studied law. In 1806 he trained in painting with artist Edward Savage, whose New York museum he bought from Savage's son in 1918. Following the death of his father in 1827, Greenwood returned to his home town of Hubbardston, MA, where he entered politics. He died there in May of 1856.
