Emily Williams Cooper was the daughter of Anna Maria Cumpston and her husband James Williams, who married in 1807. Anna Maria, the only child of Thomas Cumpston (d. 19 July 1829) and his wife Civel Baker, who were married 17 July 1776 in Christ's Church in Philadelphia, is represented by a portrait by Charles Peale Polk now in the NGA (1952.5.32). Emily Williams and her husband Colin Campbell Cooper had four children: Colin Campbell Cooper (1856-1937), Emily Cooper, Samuel H. Cooper, and Ned Cooper. The Polk painting was in the Cooper family until 1944.[Compiled from sources and references recorded on CMS]
