Adelaide was the neice of Ann Broadhurst Phillips, one of the seven children of Ann Maria Stow and her husband George Phillips. Ann's grandparents were Edward [c. 1768-1845] and Nancy Brewer Peck Stow of Boston. Edward Stow worked in Boston and in Philadelphia, where he also served as agent for the artist Gilbert Stuart. Nancy Brewer Peck was the sister of John Peck, subject of a portrait by John Johnston now in NGA (1947.17.65). Three of Ann's siblings were John, Edith, and Norah.
