James Lloyd was the son of Dr. James Lloyd [1728-1810] and his wife Sarah Corwin Lloyd [d. 1797], of Boston. James, the son, was born in Boston in December 1769, and was educated at Harvard, graduating in 1787. In 1804, James, the son, became a United States Senator from Massachusetts. Upon his retirement on 23 May 1826 he moved to Philadelphia. He died in New York City 5 April 1831.
