Established in 1838 when Hendrik Jan van Wisselingh [1816-1884] took over the book and art supply business of Johannes Immerzeel, Jr. [1776-1841] and began to sell contemporary Dutch and French art. His son Elbert Jan succeeded him and changed the name of the firm to E.J Wisselingh and Co. in 1892 a branch was opened in London under the name of the Dutch Gallery. The records of the company are held by the Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie, The Hague.
