Biography

Perle Fine was born in Boston. She studied with Hans Hofmann and through him became interested in abstract expressionism. During the 1950s and 1960s, she worked in an abstract calligraphic style, using media for expressive purposes. Fine divided her time between studios in New York City and Provincetown, Massachusetts, and also taught art at Cornell and Hofstra Universities. She worked in a variety of media, making paintings, collages, and prints. Her work is in the collections of the Guggenheim Museum, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
