[1] The bill of sale from Hirsch to the Kress Foundation for three sculptures, including NGA 1952.5.89, is dated 30 January 1952 (copy in NGA curatorial files). The eagle is described as "from the roof of a temple building (Akroter) in Alexandria...where it was found in 1898, during excavation. From the collection of Dr. Joseph Eddé..."
