Senior lecturer David Gariff presents an illustrated holiday lecture exploring the episodes surrounding the birth of Christ as depicted through artworks from the National Gallery’s collection. Interwoven with excerpts from the King James Version of the Bible, the talk will explore symbolism, technique, and historical context. Paintings by Duccio, Fra Angelico, Botticelli, Giorgione, and Gerard David are among the featured works.
This two-part lecture series is offered in person and virtually. Part 1 takes place on December 3 and Part 2 takes place on December 10. All registrants will receive a recording after the event.
