Post-screening discussion with Naomi Uman, in person
American and Mexican artist Naomi Uman is known for the tactile, handmade quality of her film work and the surprising connections she makes with different individuals through her lens. She has been interested in the history and folk traditions of Balkan rural communities for over 20 years, and with her new title three sparks, she respectfully documents and joins the day-to-day activities of her host community in Albania. Using the form of a trilogy, Uman crafts a narrative of loss imbued with mythic and metaphysical implications. (Naomi Uman, 2023, 16mm to digital and video, 95 minutes)
