Post-screening discussion with KD Davison in person
Fragments of Paradise is an intimate look at the life and work of filmmaker Jonas Mekas (1922-2019). Mekas was a pioneer in the genres of diary and essay film, as well as an influential critic, film programmer, and organizer. He was instrumental in the emergence of a diverse avant-garde cinema scene in post-war America. Mekas also stressed the crucial role that his experience in World War II and status as a displaced person after the War played in shaping his artistic vision.
This film shows Mekas to the viewer through thousands of hours of his own video and film diaries—including never-before-seen tapes and unpublished audio recordings—as well as interviews with filmmakers he influenced and members of his family. (KD Davison, 2022, DCP, 98 minutes)
