This documentary, honoring legendary soprano Maria Callas (1923—1977) on what would have been her 100th birthday, reveals the essence of an extraordinary woman. Callas rose from humble beginnings as the daughter of Greek immigrants in New York City to become an international superstar and one of the most celebrated artists of all time. She was posthumously honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007.
Maria by Callas tells her story through a wealth of archival footage—including performances, TV interviews, home movies, family photographs, private letters, and unpublished memoirs—nearly all of which have never been shown to the public. (Tom Volf, 2018, DCP, 119 minutes)
