The Anxious Ear

Käthe Kollwitz, Otto Felsing, Self-Portrait with Hand on Forehead (Selbstbildnis mit der Hand an der Stirn), 1910, etching and drypoint in black-brown ink on wove paper, Rosenwald Collection, 1943.3.5296

Music responds to the world around us. Join us for a series of performances with music spanning from 1930s Germany to the present-day United States.

The Anxious Ear is planned alongside The Anxious Eye: German Expressionism and Its Legacy. The exhibition explores how German expressionists sought to interpret the dramatic changes in the world of their time (1900–1920), with later artists inviting us to compare social, political, and cultural transformations taking place in our own societies today.
