Rodrigo de Vega
Roma sacra, edited by Rodrigo de Vega, employs a common practice of reusing previous author’s descriptions of the Urbe and repeats verbatim entire texts from Panciroli (1625) and Franzini (1677). This illustrated guidebook is divided into three main thematic sections: the first section presents a survey of all the principal religious venues; the second gives an overview of Roman emperors and antiquities; and the third provides details on 17th-century Rome according to the fourteen rioni (districts). A final chapter discusses the several Accademie that flourished in the city, including the “Accademia de Pittori, e Scultori” at the Church of Santa Martina.
