Bernardino Bernardini
This guidebook provides a description of Rome according to the reorganization of the Urbe into fourteen rioni (districts), as reformed by Pope Benedict XIV in 1743, with the intent of providing a new administrative structure for the city. The pope assigned the task to Count Bernardino Bernardini, at the time Priore of the Caporioni and author of this guidebook. The rioni and their history are described in great detail in this volume. Their boundaries were marked by inscriptions put at the borders between the two districts in question and identified by a symbol, taking the form of a coat of arms, still visible today on the streets of Rome.
