The Accademia di San Luca petitions the civil court of the senator of Rome against Maurizio di Savoia, prince and cardinal, and Niccolò Ventura da Fano, painter and gilder. Cardinal Savoia nominates the painter and gilder Pier Francesco de Rossi from Pisa as his own appraiser in order to estimate the work done for the cardinal by Niccolò Ventura, who in turn nominates as his own appraiser the Sienese painter and gilder Paolo Borano.
