Summer Institute for Educators

The Power of Art: Pathways to Critical Thinking and Social-Emotional Learning

Update: Summer Institute 2024 on Pause

The 2024 Summer Institute for Educators is on pause in order to re-imagine the future of the National Gallery’s Teacher Programs and Resources. We will not be offering the Institute this year, but will be taking time to thoughtfully study the field, talk with teachers, and consider how we might strengthen our national reach and impact in years to come. Please stay tuned for announcements about future programs and resources. In the meantime, we invite you to join our new, free online course now available on the edX platform, Teaching Complex Thinking through Art with the National Gallery of Art.

Teacher Workshops

Workshops are designed to help teachers find meaning and pleasure in the visual arts. These programs introduce art in the National Gallery's collection and in special exhibitions, explore interdisciplinary curriculum connections, and model methods for teaching with art. All programs include teaching resource materials.

Questions about our programs should be directed to [email protected].

When contacting the National Gallery, please provide a telephone number and the times of day when you can best be reached.
