Biography

Madeleine Barbier de Saint Hilaire, née Stumpf, was the child of Monsieur F. Stumpf and his wife. The Stumpf family were are collectors and great friends of the Barbizon painters Corot and Dupré. Madeleine is the subject of a painting, with her mother, by Corot, now in the NGA. A large part of the Stumpf family collection was sold at Galerie George Petit in 1906.
