In 1919 Littérature published "Les Champs magnétiques" written by André Breton and Philippe Soupault which was later described by Breton as "incontestably the first Surrealist work (in no way Dada) since it is the fruit of the first systematic applications of automatic writing." In November of 1926, Soupault was expelled from the Surrealist group for "recognizing value in purely literary activity."
