Biography

The fourth son of Sir John, 5th Bt., and Mary Elizabeth (née Forbes) Hay, Sir Adam Hay succeeded his eldest brother John (the second and third sons predeceased him) as 7th Baronet in 1838. On 23 March 1823, Sir Adam married Henrietta Callender [d. 1849], eldest daughter of William Grant of Congalton. They had five daughters and four sons, of whom the eldest survivng son, Robert (later Sir), succeeded his father as 8th Baronet.
