Paul Methuen was the son of Paul Cobb Methuen and his wife, Matilda Gooch. He represented the county of Wiltshire in several Parliaments, and was raised to the Peerage on 13 July 1838, as Baron Methuen of Corsham in the county of Wiltshire. On 31 July 1810 he married Jane Dorothea (d. 15 March 1846), eldest daughter of Sir Henry Paulet St. John Mildmay, 3rd Baronet, and member of Parliament. They had three sons; Frederick Henry Paul (1818-1891) succeeded his father as the 2nd baron Methuen. (taken from Burke's Peerage)
