Daisy Cross Somers was the daughter of Emily Frances Hunter (Mrs. George Cross). She inherited through her mother a portrait, now in NGA, of her great-grandmother's (Delilah Gustin Hunter) sister-in-law, Sarah Ogden Gustin. The picture is believed to have been painted by American naive artist Joshua Johnson in ca. 1798-1800, around the time of Sarah's marriage to Robert Gustin of Bath, Berkeley Springs, [now West] Virginia.
