Paine, Robert Child, Mrs.

Biography

The wife of Dr. Robert Child Paine, after being widowed Mrs. Paine inherited two portraits of Captain and Mrs. (née Anna Paine) Samuel Chandler, the aunt and uncle who raised Dr. Paine's great-grandfather, John Paine. They were painted around 1780 by the Captain's brother, Winthrop Chandler, and descended in the Paine family. Mrs. Paine in turn passed the pictures (now in the NGA) jointly to her three children: Mrs. Prudence Paine Kwiecien, Hamilton Child Paine, and Agnes C. Paine, of Thompson, Connecticut.
