Charles Andrew Fountaine was the son of Algernon Charles and Mary Fountaine of Narford Hall, Norfolk. In addition to being Lord of the Manors of Narford (succeeding his father in 1909), Southacre, and Newton, he held the public offices of Deputy Lieutenant of Norwich, Justice of the Peace of Norfolk, and High Sheriff (1946). In 1925, Vice-Admiral Fountaine served as Aide-de-Campe for King George V. Fountaine married Louisa Constance Catherine [d.1968], elder daughter of Sir Douglas Maclean of Marackakako, New Zealand, on 7 March 1918. They had two sons, Andrew and John Brigg Charles; the former succeeded his father in the Narford Hall estate.
