The son of Andrew and Hannah Green Fountaine of Narford Hall, the younger Andrew served as a local Deputy Lieutenant and Justice of the Peace, and in 1857 was High Sheriff. He married Caroline, daughter of Thomas Trench Berney, of Morton Hall, Norfolk, on 24 February 1848. They had three daughters: Mary, Caroline, and Emily. The eldest (Mary) married her father's nephew and successor in the Narford Hall estate, Algernon Charles Fountaine.
