Biography
Born in 1766 the son of Francis Pierpont Burton, 2nd Baron Conyngham, and his wife Elizabeth (sister of 1st Earl of Leitrim), Sir Francis was the twin brother of Henry, 3rd Baron and 1st Marquess Conyngham. He was a Knight Grand Cross of the Hanoverian Order, served as a Colonel in the Clare Militia, and as a Member of Parliament for County Clare. He was a popular lieutenant-governor of Lower Canada during the governor-generalship of Lord Dalhousie. On June 4, 1801, he married Valentina Letitia [d. 1844], second daughter of the 1st Baron Cloncurry. They had two sons, Henry Stuart Burton and (Capt.) William Conyngham. Sir Francis died in 1832.
